Rhododendrons

Evergreen staples of the Pacific Northwest that bloom in brilliant clusters of pink, purple, red, and white every spring. They love our naturally acidic soil and mild winters.

Rhododendrons are one of the most iconic plants of the Oregon coast. These evergreen shrubs thrive in the acidic, well-drained soil found naturally throughout Coquille and the surrounding area.

They bloom from early spring through June, producing stunning clusters of flowers in shades of pink, purple, red, white, and even yellow. Most varieties prefer partial shade — under tall conifers is ideal.

Care Tips:

  • Plant in acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0)
  • Mulch with bark or pine needles
  • Water deeply but infrequently
  • Avoid planting too deep — keep the root ball slightly above soil level
  • Prune after flowering to shape

We carry a wide selection of rhododendrons suited to our coastal climate, from compact varieties for containers to large landscape specimens.
